St. Augustine has great food and restaurants and what better way to sample some of those signature dishes than at the Taste of St. Augustine. Held at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, 2026 celebrates the 29th year for the event.

Always popular with locals, visitors can also experience the culinary heritage and culture of St. Johns County in the delicious food. You’ll find favorite, established St. Augustine restaurants showcased along with new ones.

Once you arrive and pay your admission fee of $5.00, you’ll be given a “map” of the participating restaurants, the dishes they’ll be serving and their location. With the $1.00 “Taste” tickets that you also purchase, you’ll be able to sample any and all of the delectable “bites”.

Vote for People’s Choice

Be bold! Try something you might not otherwise. You can sample signature dishes of delicious cuisine ranging from casual to upscale. Then, vote on your favorite to win the People’s Choice Award!

Also included in the event is a Kids zone with free activities. There’s face painting as well as arts & crafts to keep the kids occupied.

Founders Day Commemoration

St Augustine was Founded September 8, 1565

How It All Started

Pedro Menendez de Aviles was sent by King Phillip II with a fleet of ships from Spain to Florida to establish a colony and protect it from the French. Father Francisco Lopez de Mendoza Grajales was a chaplain who accompanied Menendez. He celebrated the First Mass on the present-day grounds of the Mission of Nobre de Dios and National Shrine of Our Lady of Le Leche. This marked the founding of St Augustine and the first parish in the continental United States on September 8, 1565.

History is Remembered

Each year reenactors commemorate the founding by arriving in a small boat on the shore at the Mission. Once on land, they proceed to the The Rustic Altar where they celebrate the First Mass. The public is invited to share in the celebration by attending the mass. Bringing a chair to sit on is encouraged. Even though the actual founding date is September 8^th and falls on a Monday this year, activities have been moved to Saturday, September 6, 2025.

After mass is celebrated, the reenactors process to the Fountain of Youth. The public is welcome to join the procession. Reenactors then celebrate the First Thanksgiving – eating with the Spanish Settlers and the Timucuan natives. Yes, the First Thanksgiving started in St Augustine.

The day continues with encampments and weapons demonstrations from 1pm to 5pm on the grounds of the Fountain of Youth. The reenactors dressed in period costume will make feel like you are one of the first settlers 460 years ago.

There, at the fuel dock of the marina, the Bishop of St. Augustine will stand on a raised platform to offer blessings and sprinkle holy water on a procession of vessels—ranging from commercial fishing boats to personal watercraft—as they pass by the dock.

The Menorcan Cultural Society

The only Menorcan society in the United States, it was founded in the 1980s to preserve and promote the heritage and culture of the Menorcans who left the Mediterranean homeland to make a new life in the New World.

History of the Menorcans

The Menorcans were among a group of 1400 people who left the Mediterranean and set sail for British East Florida in 1768. There were also Greek, Italian, Corsican, and French peoples. They were the largest single group of European settlers to immigrate as a single group to the New World.

The first nine years, the Menorcans spent toiling under harsh conditions and enduring even harsher treatment. Disease and starvation decimated their numbers. In the fall of 1777, less then 700 of the remaining members walked to St. Augustine where they petitioned the British governor, Patrick Tonyn. He granted them space in the northwest section of the old walled city.

Eventually, the acquisition of Florida by the young United States changed the flags that flew over St. Augustine.

For more than two centuries, since coming to the St. Augustine, Menorcan colonists and their descendants have been an integral part of the city and St. Johns County.

About St. Augustine Lions Seafood Festival

Celebrating their 42nd year in 2025, this festival offers something for EVERYONE! There will be seafood, of course, with the lots of other cuisines and county fair dishes. You certainly won’t go hungry!

Fun activities include the Arts & Crafts Village with all sorts of ‘goodies’ to buy. Then there’s the Live Music with a diverse line-up of local and regional acts. Headliners for 2025 are yet to be determined.

Let’s not forget the Fun Activities including Family Shows, Rides / Kids Zone and More. Of course, there will be Pirate Magic with Captain William Mayhem, face painting, balloon sculptures, and more …..

About the St. Augustine Lions Club

A 501c3 nonprofit organization, the St. Augustine Lions Foundation and St. Augustine Lions Club raises funds each year to support worthwhile community projects. Since 1981, they’ve raised well over two million dollars. The St. Augustine Lions Seafood Festival is the primary annual fundraiser for the Lions Club with 80 percent of the profits generated being distributed among St. Johns County non-profits, vision screening for school children, eye exams and glasses for those in need, hurricane aid relief, and more.
