Performances in 2021

This year things have been switched up a bit still due in part to Covid-19.

On June 24-26 and August 20-21, 2021, head to the Cathedral Basilica for the St. Augustine Music Festival. Concerts are free as in past years, but this year you’ll need to register for a ticket. You’ll enjoy the sounds of Mozart, Mendelssohn, Paganini, and more.

And, if you have the opportunity, join SAMF and the St. Augustine Amphitheatre for Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom – two special concerts on June 19, 2021; one at 3:00pm, the other at 7:30pm.

As part of their 15th Anniversary Celebration, the St. Augustine Music Festival is bringing together world-class musicians from its’ own orchestra and those of the Ritz Chamber Players and multi-community choirs.

The groundbreaking concerts, “Let Freedom Sing on Junteenth!”, celebrate the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States. They honor Freedom Day with an inspiring selection of spirituals and classical works all rejoicing in the triumphs of the Civil Rights Movement.

History of St. Augustine Music Festival

The St. Augustine Music Festival was founded in 2007 by Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra members Jorge A. Peña and Jin Kim-Peña. Many other musicians and the local community also were instrumental in bringing the festival to fruition. The mission of the Festival is to Entertain, Educate, and Elevate through classical music. In fact, it is the largest free, world-class music festival in the U.S.A.

Performances are usually for six evenings the last two weeks of June at the Cathedral Basilica where the acoustics are outstanding.

Musicians from the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra are joined by internationally known guest artists. From solo violinists to cellists to pianists, each artist is profusely talented.

Audiences can look forward to hearing everything from Bach to Stravinksy. The music covers solo recitals, chamber music ensembles, and full orchestral works.

Concerts are Free and usually don’t require tickets. However, seating is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Due to Covid-19, St. Augustine Music Festival performances in June, 2020 were virtual. Even so, they were extremely popular.
